Dolan Law won an appeal at the Nevada Supreme Court involving a complex custody case where a father figure sought custody of a young girl, despite the biological mother’s objection. The client had cared for the young girl since 2009 while living in Mexico, but after relocating to Nevada in 2012, the family of the biological mother attempted to take the young girl away from the “father” in the middle of night. The family had hoped to return the child to the mother she had not known for four years. Immediately following the incident, the client hired Dolan Law to gain custody of the then five-year-old girl, which was awarded to him by The Nevada Supreme Court in 2015 after a lengthy legal battle.
The appeal involved legal issues concerning guardianships, parental preference, the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Enforcement Act (UCCJEA) and arguments regarding the applicability of the Hague Convention.
Tax Exempt Application
Dolan Law assisted the Winnemucca Boys & Girls Club in obtaining 501(c)(3) Tax Exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service. Dolan Law, along with Ray Parks, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Winnemucca Boys and Girls Club, prepared the IRS application and received tax exempt recognition six months later. This status provides the Winnemucca Boys and Girls Club with many benefits including exemption from federal corporate income taxes, the ability to apply for grants and other public or private allocations available only to IRS recognized 501(c)(3) organizations, and to seek donations and offer donors tax write-offs.
Search and Seizure Case
The founder of Dolan Law, Robert E. Dolan appeared before the United States Supreme Court in 2004. He argued a Fourth Amendment search and seizure case that sparked a nationwide debate regarding citizens’ civil rights when encountering police. Following the case, Robert was invited to speak at law schools across the country including Harvard and Boyd Law School. The Hiibel case is now studied in law school classrooms nationwide.
Criminal Law Case
We have often times assisted clients during the investigative period of time prior to any formal charges being brought and developed strategies to avoid arrest. There are so many factors involved in positioning clients during investigations that they are too numerous to list. In any event, if charges are brought, be assured that Dolan has a proven track record of providing high quality criminal defense notwithstanding the charges brought. Recently, just after the jury was selected, in response to a motion in limine filed by the defense, the state was constrained to move to have the felony case dismissed (which the defense did not oppose-of course), and the client was overwhelmed with joy at the results.
